Jose Cuervo have launched an innovative campaign to celebrate their 219th birthday. The campaign, named 'History in a Bottle', makes use of a message-in-a-bottle theme and consists of a stop motion TV spot and an accompanying augmented reality mobile application.
The TV spot covers the birth of the family’s heritage in 1795, to the Battle of Puebla and the original Cinco de Mayo in 1862. Through 13 years of American prohibition, and the invention of the very first Margarita. It finishes with the message:
For 219 years the Cuervo family has made history their own way. For 219 years they've made 100% agave Cuervo Tradicional.
The Cuervo History App that accompanies the campaign allows users to experience two scenes from the TV spot close up with the aid of augmented reality. Uses simply need to download the App and take aim at a bottle (an image will also do) of Jose Cuervo Tradicional. More details on how the App works can be found at the following URL cuervohistoryapp.com and it can be downloaded for both iOS and Android devices. The App appears to only be available in English speaking countries.
It is perhaps interesting to note that, as well as Cuervo, Casa Sauza have also decided to focus on the heritage of their brand in their latest campaign featuring Justin Timberlake.
